MIL-DTL-D38999 is a popular series of circular connectors used in a wide variety of applications, including vehicles, ships, planes, and handheld equipment. Certain applications are sensitive to ferrous materials. For panel mount connectors (device side), various shell materials, such as non-magnetic aluminum and bronze, are readily available. However, cable mount connectors, which feature a self-locking mechanism, contain ferrous components like retaining rings, rivets, and springs.
Novamax can rebuild your MIL-DTL-38999 connectors by replacing the ratchet mechanism components with aluminum and bronze parts. This modification preserves the connector’s self-locking feature while making it non-magnetic. The image below illustrates a rebuilt 26WB35SN connector, where the black components, made from anodized aluminum, replace the original stainless steel retaining ring and hold the connector parts together.
The next image displays the internal components of a self-locking mechanism. In this version, the original factory springs with self-locking teeth have been replaced with custom springs made of beryllium bronze.
